So for the past week and a half my foot has been itching. It started off looking like three bug bites on top of my foot, which only made sense because they itched like crazy.
Then it started to spread.
I think part of me knew what it was and just hoped I was wrong. For those of you who don’t know, I have an illogical fear of worms. Their simple bodies and subsequent squirming disgusts me.
I had hoped that everyone was right and it was just a fungus. But after a few days of anti-fungal cream that I purchased from a store called ‘chemicals’, it had only spread more. So I went to a nearby hospital today and, yep, it’s a worm.
The doctor said the worms are carried by cats and dogs. In other words, the post I wrote yesterday about how playing with cats and dogs was a nice break was full of irony. That led to worms in my foot.
Given my illogical fear, I think I’m handling it fairly well. I’m just trying not to focus on the worm aspect and instead on the fact that I can now properly treat it and stop the itching! And I really did enjoy playing with those little guys.
Plus my dad shared this link with me and it put things in perspective. This is treatable. I’m fortunate to have the money to see a doctor and buy proper treatment. I have shoes. This was a fluke thing for me and not something I have to worry about all of the time.
Don’t scroll down if you don’t want to see a picture of my foot!
Gross is right!! So sorry you have to go through this, but, you are correct in saying that reading the link your dad sent to you puts it in perspective. School has started as has the craziness of fall in the Fox household….needless to say, I don’t get on the computer as often as I would like. I have spent this evening catching up on all of your posts. I am enjoying them. You are a terrific writer! I think of you often. Take care of that foot!
PS…..Matt is trying out for a part in Charlotte’s Web at the Beck. He had a callback tonight. The play is the first weekend in November….you’ll be back!
Love you!
Yay for Matt! Don’t worry I understand that things are busy, but appreciate you catching up 🙂
Yuck! Yes, your dad’s link does put it in perspective, though.
so gross! I can’t believe how well you are handling it! I’m grossed out, sorry!
Sounds like you are having a pretty adventurous time even if you have a few obstacles to overcome. Glad to hear that you are enjoying every minute of it as I am sure that the time is going fast and the thought of having a worm infested foot will fade to a distant memory if at first it doesn’t creep up your leg. JK
Anyways, love reading your posts. Your words are so detailed at times I feel like I could be traveling the countryside with you. Wondering what tomorrow will bring???
Haha I was worried it would spread but thankfully it seems to be nearly gone from my foot. Thanks for continuing to read! I wonder the same thing every day!
That “Don’t scroll down” note was a little late! Looks different than the one you sent us? How is it looking now?
I can add a picture to update you….the ‘veiny’ look is still there, but it’s not pink anymore. Sorry about the late notice haha And yea it had gotten bigger since the picture I sent to mom and dad.
Haha Alyse, I don’t know if you know this but a fluke is also a kind of parasitic worm… pun intended?
haha I remember learning that! Good one 🙂
Alyse I don’t even know what to say! You are being very brave!
ALyse, I’m going to stop readin gyour blogs if you keep psoting gross stuff! … ; )
PS – at least it’s only in your foot and not anywhere else.
Hey Alyse,
I have just come back from a 3 week visit to Ghana and I have the same thing lol and my doctor also said it was a fungus (guess I have to go to another one now!).
Anyway, what did your doctor prescribe?
